Sharks' Goalie Fight: Alex Nedeljkovic's Hilarious Reaction to Bobrovsky's Rush (2026)

Hold onto your hats, hockey fans, because the San Jose Sharks' recent 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers was a game for the ages, and it all comes down to an unforgettable goalie fight!

This epic clash, which took place at the Amerant BankArena, has everyone buzzing, especially the moment when goalies Alex Nedeljkovic and Sergei Bobrovsky dropped their gloves.

The third period saw tempers flare, and Nedeljkovic, ever the team player, rushed to defend his teammate Vincent Desharnais, who was making his comeback from an injury. A scuffle ensued with Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues, but the real shocker? Bobrovsky, from across the rink, charged in to join the fray against Nedeljkovic.

After the game, Nedeljkovic shared the hilarious details with NBC Sports California's Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda. He confessed he'd do it all again, no matter who he was standing up for, even though he was taken by surprise by Bobrovsky's unexpected involvement.

"Somebody started yelling [to warn me], I don't know who it was … I don't know why I felt the need to turn around, but it was a little bit of like an, 'Oh crap,' moment," Nedeljkovic recalled on "Sharks Postgame Live." He continued, "Fight or flight kind of kicked in, you know. I tried to watch [Ryan Reaves] as best I could. I hope I made him a little bit proud out there."

But here's where it gets controversial... This was Bobrovsky's first career fight, while Nedeljkovic had a previous bout during his time with the Detroit Red Wings. In Sharks history, Nedeljkovic is only the second goalie to be penalized for fighting, following Steve Shields, who got into a scrap on October 4, 1999, against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Nedeljkovic told Hahn and Remenda, "I was just doing my best not to get punched. [Bobrovsky] came out swinging, so I was just trying not to lose any teeth, or it might have straightened my nose out a little bit more for me, but, I don't want to do it that way."

Bobrovsky, on the other hand, felt Nedeljkovic had crossed a line in his tussle with Rodrigues and felt compelled to intervene. He said, "I felt just like I'd made a decision and I went straight into it. It's exciting, you know, but it's obviously not the thing I'm doing for a living. It is what it is, so we had a good fight. And unfortunately we didn't have two points, and that's the most important."

And this is the part most people miss... The Sharks secured the win, clinching a season sweep against the defending Stanley Cup champions. This victory pushed the Sharks to 53 points in the 2025-26 NHL season, surpassing their total from the previous season.

Goals from Desharnais, Will Smith, and Mario Ferraro, along with an empty-netter by Barclay Goodrow, helped seal the deal. Nedeljkovic's impressive 35 saves complemented his willingness to drop the gloves, securing the Sharks' fifth win in seven games and their 25th of the season.

"They're all special," Nedeljkovic said after the win. "They're all lots of fun. This one had a little bit more extra stuff going on, I think, than the other 24, but you know what, we'll take it. Two points is two points."

What do you think about the goalie fight? Did Bobrovsky have a right to get involved, or did Nedeljkovic initiate the conflict? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
