Get ready for a major upgrade at the Ozarks airport! A growing regional hub is about to get a modern facelift, and it's an exciting development for the community.
The Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport, located at Fort Leonard Wood, is expanding to meet the needs of its increasing passenger base. With a steady rise in travelers, now reaching 11,000 annually, it's time for an upgrade.
But here's where it gets controversial... While some might argue that the previous facility was sufficient, Colonel Steven Bartley, the Garrison Commander, has a different vision. He believes in creating a purpose-built, passenger-centric space, ensuring comfort and convenience.
"It's an investment in our people," Col. Bartley emphasizes. "We're providing amenities that were lacking before, bringing us up to par with other regional airports and meeting passenger expectations."
The new terminal, spanning 9,000 square feet, will accommodate 50 passengers simultaneously. It's designed with dedicated security, easy Wi-Fi access, and comfortable seating, creating a more enjoyable travel experience.
Col. Bartley adds, "It's almost like a field of dreams. We're demonstrating our commitment to the area and our community. We want to make it convenient and affordable for people to visit and for locals to explore other regions."
And this is the part most people miss... The goal isn't just about serving local residents; it's about attracting visitors too. With its central location between Kansas City and St. Louis, the airport offers a unique opportunity for travelers to explore a new region.
"We're providing an accessible gateway to the Ozarks," Col. Bartley explains. "It's an invitation for interested partners and a chance for our community to venture out and discover new places."
Construction is on track, and the airport is set to welcome passengers this summer.
So, what do you think? Is this upgrade a step in the right direction for the Ozarks airport? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
